Air New Zealand Review
In 1965, Air New Zealand was born following the Trans-Tasman Travel Arrangement between the Government of New Zealand and Australia for the free travel movement for both countries. New Zealand brought the predecessor of Air New Zealand to life, the “Tasman Empire Airways Limited,” which was founded in 1940.
“Tasman Empire Airways Limited” became the country’s flag carrier. However, the airline suffered a major setback in 1989 when the airline was partially privatised due to the lack of government funds.
In 2001, the government of New Zealand regained full control of the airline after the failed merger between Air New Zealand and Ansett Australia due the financial collapse of Ansett in 2001.
Christopher Luxon is the chief executive officer of Air New Zealand since 2013. Prior to his tenure as CEO, he also served as the General Manager of the Airline in 2011. He has 18-years of senior career experience in Unilever and Non-Executive Director for Virgin Australia Holding Limited.
Christopher has a Master of Commerce in Business Administration from the University of Canterbury.
