History and Background
Air Seychelles, originally known as Seychelles Airlines, is the result of the unification of two different airlines, namely Inter-Island Airways and Air Mahé back in September 15, 1977. The airlines’ first international flight occurred in 1983 using their Boeing 767. This first international flight flew from the Seychelles to Frankfurt, Germany and also to London.
Since July 1, 2015, Air Seychelles’s CEO has been Roy Kinnear. An Economics and Statistics graduate, he initially worked as a General Manager Revenue Optimisation for British Midland International. Then, he took the role of Network Revenue Management head for Gulf Air from 2002 to 2006. Before being appointed as Air Seychelles’s CEO, Mr. Kinnear used to be Etihad Airways’ Senior Vice President of Revenue Management and Planning.
Looking at different Air Seychelles reviews, I see varying opinions regarding this airline. Some people were not pleased with the airline’s services. One passenger seemed appalled by the in-flight meal that was served to her. According to her, the food was so bad that she did not even bother to eat it, and she immediately put the food into the waste bin. Another passenger complained about not being allowed to recline her seat. She said that people should sleep the night before their flight because they would not be able to do so once they’re inside the plane.
It’s not all bad, though. Other passengers commended the friendliness of the airline’s staff and crew, saying that they were quite enthusiastic and that they provided excellent customer service to their passengers. People noticed that although their aircraft was not the newest model, it was still very well-maintained. The maintenance crew also cleaned the restrooms multiple times during the entirety of the flight.
A Look at Their Website
Heading over to the Air Seychelles website, you will immediately notice their nice color scheme. The most common colors are white, red, blue and green. Their logo can be seen on the top left, next to the “Etihad Airways Partner” mark. The tabs change color when you hover your mouse over them, and clicking them will bring down additional options.
Scroll down and you will see more options including special offers, VIP facility, extra legroom request, loyalty program and inflight connectivity, all of which are represented by small yet clear images. Scroll down even more and you will find the news section and all other useful and related information about Air Seychelles.
Passengers will also be able to plan and book their flights, check for special offers, view route maps, check their flight timetable and generally manage their bookings on the website itself. I can’t see the option for the online check-in on the website’s homepage, though. On the whole, the website is intuitive and simple, no glitchy graphics and effects are present.
Passengers may call Air Seychelles’s customer care hotlines which operate every Monday through Saturday. Their hotlines are available even during public holidays. They can also be contacted by email, or you may send messages, comments or inquiries using this online form.
Air Seychelles provides Economy class for both domestic and international flights. The Business class is only available for international flights. For domestic flights under the Economy class, a baggage allowance of 15 kilograms is allocated for each passenger, unless they are connecting to or from international flights in which case, a 20-kilogram baggage allowance is given.
For international Economy class flights, passengers are allocated a 30-kilogram baggage allowance. They will also be given blankets, pillows, a full meal and some drinks.
Passengers traveling in the Business class are given a meal with multiple courses, several drinks, a 40-kilogram baggage allowance, reading materials (magazines, newspapers, etc.) and a nice seat that even has a massage feature!

Air Seychelles’ main hub is at Mahe Island Seychelles International Airport. The airline only has a small fleet size of ten, which comprises of two Airbus A320-200, one Airbus A330-200, two DHC-6 Twin Otter-300 Series and four DHC-6 Twin Otter-400 Series. They are also a member of the prestigious Star Alliance.
Last 2015, Air Seychelles was recognized as the Leading Airline of the Indian Ocean. The award was given to them during the World Travel Awards 2015 (WTA).

After considering everything that the previous flyers have said, we can all agree that although Air Seychelles is far from perfect, they are just as far as from being the worst. Flyers who expect luxurious planes and over-the-top flight meals are better off with other high-end airlines. However, if you’re on a budget and would simply like to reach your destination, then Air Seychelles is for you!
