Dragonair is a Hong Kong based airline founded by Kuang-Piu Chao in 1985. Chao is a well known industrial tycoon and philanthropist in Hong kong and currently serves as Honorary Chairman of Dragon Air.
The airline endured a lot of extreme gridlock, because of the airline monopoly held by Cathay Pacific for forty years. Cathay deliberately blocked Dragonair’s formal application as a commercial airline. However after battling for its survival, Dragonair was granted its license and adopted Hong Kong’s one-route policy which lasted until 2001. In 1990, Cathay Pacific bought majority of the airline’s shares that totaled to 89 percent.
Algernon Yau is the chief executive officer of Dragonair since July 2014. Prior to his career as Dragonair CEO, he served in various managerial positions and oversaw Cathay Pacific’s operations as well. He joined Cathay Pacific in 1982 and Dragonair in 1994.

The airline received mixed comments, both commendations and criticisms, from customer reviewers. Passenger sentiments grew mainly due to the decline on the quality of service provided by Dragonair. They expressed their dissatisfaction on the commonly occurring unannounced flight delays. Passengers also noticed the very poor condition of the aircraft, which reportedly had filthy seats, this really disappointed some customers.
However bad the reviews and ratings from customer assessments were, Dragonair was still praised by some reviewers for their crew that’re still providing extraordinary service. Based on customer feedback, we cannot deny that there are a lot of things Dragonair needs to address to lessen customers ordeals in their flights. On the other hand, I think based on this Dragonair review, the airline is doing its best to remake itself by addressing a long term development plan in their service.
