Origins and Ownership
Evergreen Marine Corporation’s founding company chairman: Chang Yung-fa announced his company’s intentions to establish Taiwan’s first private international airline, in 1988. EVA Air was established in 1989, as an affiliate of the shipping conglomerate: Evergreen Group. Since then, EVA Air has expanded to include air cargo, airline catering, ground handling, and aviation engineering services.
Derek began his career with EVA sister-company Evergreen Marine in 1981. In 1989, he was tapped to join the team undertaking all of the groundwork for launching EVA Airways. He and a handful of colleagues negotiated for traffic rights, planned routes and set the stage for EVA to become the world-class airline that it is today. He steadily rose through the airline’s ranks, gaining invaluable industry experience and insights in different roles as he lead Corporate Planning, the International Affair Division, Passenger Management and EVA’s Europe Head Office.
He was selected to serve as president of EVA sister-airline UNI Air in 2004 and, in 2014, he was promoted to chairman. Derek was the creative force behind a number of UNI Air’s most innovative and successful services. Among them, he initiated the 24/7 service that enables passengers to make reservations and purchase tickets through ibon machines in every 7-11 convenience store in Taiwan.

The lie flat business class seats were excellent and to top that, they supply pyjamas and slippers for your comfort. The icing on the cake, was you can order your meals 6 days before you fly, from a larger menu than on board, this we found as an excellent idea and it works so well, this you can also do for your return flight, if you have access to a computer. “Great price, good service at the counter and with the flight attendants. It was extremely difficult talking with someone on the phone in advance to get seat assignments next to each other. Took three hours and tons of different phone numbers to actually speak with a person regarding a disability.
Once seating was arranged, the airline service was terrific. Inflight entertainment was great, food good, and seats where the typical economy sardine can.

The premium economy seats were roomier than economy and had a foot rest but did not recline any further than economy. I would upgrade to have a flat area for sleeping.
