KLM Royal Dutch Airlines
Koninklijke Luchtvaart Maatschappij N.V., or KLM, is the flag carrier airline of Netherlands. Headquartered at Amstelveen, with its hub at nearby Amsterdam Airport Schiphol; KLM was founded in 1919 and is the oldest airline in the world. KLM is a part of the Air France-KLM group and is a member of the SkyTeam Airline Alliance.
KLM operates operates scheduled passenger and cargo services to approximately 130 destinations, and has a reputation as one of the safest airline in the world.
Origins and Ownership
Albert Plesman, an aviator lieutenant, sponsored the ELTA aviation exhibition in Amsterdam in 1919. The exhibition was a great success as several Dutch commercial interests intended to establish Dutch airline; in which Albert Plesman was nominated to head. And as of September 1919, Queen Wilhelmina awarded the yet-to-be-founded KLM its Royal predicate. Soon after, KLM was founded and Albert Plesman became its first administrator and director.
Pieter Elbers, the current President and CEo of KLM airlines, started as a Supervisor Aircraft in 1992 with KLM. Followed by a number of managerial positions in the Netherlands as well as abroad for about six years. He graduated at the University of Amsterdam with a Master in Business Administration degree, and the Academy of Venlo with a Bachelor in Logistics Management degree. In Addition, he has completed executive programs at IMD in Lausanne, Columbia University in New York, and Tsinghua in Beijing.

In terms of reviews from KLM’s passengers, I can’t seem to find anything negative or disappointing about this airline, the staffs are attentive and helpful, the in-flight entertainment was good, the food—everything! “Due to return to Amsterdam via Paris with AF1349/AF1146 they changed it to a direct flight BCA-AMS with KL 1666. Reason? A thunderstorm in Barcelona caused major delays with AF flights. Instead of a six to eight hour delay, home in just 2 hours. With KLM. Which means more space (34+ inches in Business Class) and food suitable for a vegetarian. No delays and no AF inflight service. We had just enough time to get to the plane and off we went on our direct flight to AMS. Great service and many thanks to the local ground staff. They pushed some buttons and changed a possible huge AF-delay into an early arrival with KLM.”

KLM Airlines has three cabin classes, for the international long-haul routes, mainly: World Business Class, Economy Comfort and Economy. These classes offers: personal screens with audio-video on demand, satellite telephone, SMS and email services. European short-haul and medium-haul flights have Economy seats in the rear cabin and Europe Business in the front cabin.
