Kuwait International Airport is the main airport serving Kuwait City in Kuwait. The airport was originally planned as a stop for British aircrafts flying to British India. The airport underwent renovations and expansion from 1991-2001, in which the former parking lot was cleared to build a terminal expansion. The Commercial Centre or Airport Mall is connected with the Departure and Arrival halls, making it easier to access. The Airport Mall which opened in 2003 is the first facility of its kind in the Middle East. The mall has perfumeries, watch outlets, sportswear stores, travel goods, music stores and bookshops.
