In a time when everything is within reach in an instant, flight and tourism information is no different from any other commodity that needs to be delivered fast while it’s still hot and fresh. With the increasing number of flight passengers, online travel agencies are essential at providing a variety of options for travelers to choose from, as well as get the best services that money can buy.
Among the online travel agents on the web, Orbitz caters to a wide range of services from booking of flights to providing perks to their loyal customers through their Orbitz Rewards Program. The company was established by leading US airlines in 1999. Despite having several investors coming from huge American airlines, Cendant, a New-York based provider of business and consumer services, took over Orbitz operation in November 2004.
Orbitz the Organization
By July 2007, Orbitz was listed as a common traded stock (OWW) in the NYSE and under the leadership of its CEO and Director Barney Harford. He is a member of the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Travel and Tourism Advisory Board and the U.S. Travel Association’s CEO Roundtable.
Orbitz has several services and subsidiaries under its vast umbrella company and all of their offices are located in Illinois. Orbitz also has several awards and achievements posted on their website, which includes Best Travel App in 2014 from APPY Awards.
However, Orbitz had been constantly pummeled by negative feedback, even with its merger with other giant service companies and its corporate board composed of top notch professionals from various industries. In this Orbitz review, readers would see how Orbitz shot out of its orbit.
An Orbital Chaos
Several air passengers that used the services Orbitz had to offer were left dumbfounded by what they got in exchange for the money they had to shell out.
One customer from Florida said that they booked a hotel based on an advertisement on the Orbitz website. Upon their arrival at the hotel, they had several unsavory experiences with the hotel staff as well as the “deplorable condition” of the rooms.
Another customer from New Jersey claimed that they were ripped off by an advertisement posted on the Orbitz website. They claim that an advertisement for a hotel room for $335 a night, however the price doubled after the advertisement was clicked. When the customer called Orbitz, the online travel agency said flatly that the discounted rates were no longer available.
However that was not the end of the reported anomalies, a few of the customers that once subscribed to Orbitz’ services and ended up having the worst day of their lives. More miserable experiences of unhappy customers were shared in this Orbitz review.
A customer from New Jersey gave details on how he was tossed around after paying for a car rental service from Orbitz. At the end of the day, the customer had to spend another $30 apart from the $60 reservation they paid for a car rental which they would be using to attend to a wedding in Washington, DC.
A customer had advised other travelers planning to book their trips with Orbitz not to purchase the insurance that came along with an Orbitz reservation. The customer from Arizona said that it would be a waste of money since the insurance package would only cover for certain incidents that she claimed were rare situations. She even joked that she wished she could have thought of this money making scheme a long time ago.
Then again, there were some satisfied customers claiming that they had no issues with the services from the online travel agency; one of these seemingly rare wonderful experiences is detailed in this Orbitz review. One customer even said they booked several flights with Orbitz and never ran into any hassle. The travel itinerary included a flight from Houston to Charlotte to Washington DC to Greensboro and then back to Houston through the same route.
For travelers who would still want to use Orbitz’ services, they could check the online travel agency’s website. On the Orbitz website, travelers could check the navigation bar on the top most section of the website to learn about the various booking options for hotels, flights, packages, cars, and cruises.
The website also offers deals and several perks to their regular customers. On top of that, Orbitz app is available for download for free; customer with iPhones, Android phones or Kindle Fire would be able to download the app hassle free. At least that’s one feature presented in this Orbitz review that would not cost customers a single cent.
As was mentioned earlier, Orbitz has a rewards program where customers could get as much as a 5% discount on hotels and a 1% discount on flights by simply joining their Orbitz Rewards.
Orbitz Out of Reach?
Orbitz offers online support to their customers through their website, which would be scrutinized under a microscope in this Orbitz review. A link to their customer support services are located at the websites top navigation bar. However once clicked, the customer support link would only lead to a webpage containing several other links that would pretty much consume so much of the customer’s time by just browsing through the service topics.
In fact, one customer gave a thumbs down to Orbitz Travel’s customer support as they were sold another reservation from another car rental provider at a higher price rather than providing a plausible solution to the inconvenience the customer suffered after Orbitz failed to deliver.

With the increasing number of online travel agencies sprouting like mushrooms over the web, customers have more options to choose from; the most important thing to consider now when making a choice of online travel agencies would be which agency would give the best deal at the lowest price. That includes which agency would be able to deliver the promised services.
