Tocumen International Airport Reviews
Tocumen International Airport (IATA Code: PTY) is a public international airport that serves Panama’s capital, Panama City. Passengers traveling into and out of Panama are likely to visit this airport. With that, let’s take a look what people are saying by looking at the latest Tocumen International Airport reviews I found online.
What passengers think of PTY
Oh dear, looks like future passengers have to brace for an “unforgettable” experience when going through PTY. And by unforgettable, I mean stressful and annoying. The people who left Tocumen International Airport reviews were anything but pleased by their experience.
First off, the queues can be very long and frustratingly slow. A passenger who was in a line of 40 or so people was disappointed to find that the small drink she bought from the terminal was not allowed past the check-in area.
Some people even reported rude treatment coming from the staff, specifically those assigned in the customs area. The terminals have been reported to be bleak and dirty, with a few ceiling tiles missing or broken.
Basically, don’t expect a glamorous treatment while transiting through PTY.
The airport is a pretty standard looking one, with lots of dining options to choose from. Some passengers have noted that PTY has a similar layout to that of a shopping mall. The terminals can be a bit messy so if you’re staying overnight for a layover, it is best to sleep on the long benches instead of lying on the floor.
For assistance, approach the information desk found at the landside main hall. Free WiFi connectivity is available, but it can be spotty at times. Other facilities and amenities include restrooms, ATMs, cash machines, shopping stalls, a currency exchange booth, and more.
As of today, getting to and from the airport is only possible by taxi and car rental services from the following agencies: Barriga, Alamo, Dollar, Hertz, Avis, Budget, Thrifty, National, and Sixt.
Traffic and service
The international airport serves as the main hub for Copa Airlines. Flights from the Americas and the Caribbean can fly to this airport, along with other airlines from major cities. It has two runways, one being 10,007 feet in length and the other being 8,799 feet in length. Last 2014, it handled 8,536,342 passengers.

Sadly, the negative Tocumen International Airport reviews have clearly described to us how inconvenient and unpleasant going through PTY really is. With messy terminals, long lines, and unfriendly staff, there is an apparent need for an airport re-evaluation and perhaps re-training of the staff. If these issues are addressed, I am sure people’s opinions of the airport will changed almost immediately. For now, if you’re going to go through PTY, just take a deep breath and hope for the best!
