The flag carrier airline of Vietnam. Vietnam Airlines was established as a state-owned enterprise in April 1989. Headquartered in Long Bien District in Hanoi, and with hubs at Noi Bai International Airport and Tan Son Nhat International Airport. The Vietnam Airlines flies to 52 destinations in 17 countries, excluding codeshare services.
Origins and Ownership
Vietnam Airlines has its beginnings in 1956, when it was established by the North Vietnamese Government under the name: Vietnam Civil Aviation. The airline was created as a part of the air force for civilian purposes with no support for both the Soviet Union and China. The Vietnam Airlines became the country’s flag carrier airline in 1993, after completing a restructuring programme that was started four years earlier. In that year, the airline split from the Civil Aviation Administration of Vietnam and became a state enterprise.
Vietnam Airlines has named Duong Tri Thanh, who has been Jetstar Pacific Airlines’ chairman since 2012, as its new president and CEO. Thanh moves into the role held by Pham Ngoc Minh for the past eight years. Minh now becomes chairman of Vietnam Airlines’ board of directors, replacing former chairman Pham Viet Thanh, who has resigned. Duong Tri Thanh held the title of deputy general manager of Vietnam Airlines as well serving as chairman of Jetstar Pacific’s board.
What people are saying
With the modernisation of their aircrafts, as well as their in-flight entertainment; Vietnam Airlines has gained a good impression of being a good airport that provides great services towards its passengers. In fact, Vietnam Airlines has been entitled by SkyTrax as the leading 4-star airline, globally. It’s no surprise why the airline has been gaining hundreds of positive reviews coming from its customers. Here are some of the reviews:
“I was very well impressed with this airline. Modern airplane, good food on board and well equipped in terms of entertainment on board. I flew from London to Hanoi and also took 2 internal flights. I will fly with them again.”
—Helena M (Lisbon, Portugal)
“The service and food were good. Cabin crew were friendly. Legroom was better than other Airlines flying in the same sector. When we were coming back from Hanoi to Kuala, we were carrying pumped breast milk since my wife is a breastfeeding mother, due to local regulation rule, we’re not allowed to hand carry the polystyrene box which contains milk and they told us to check in the as luggage. But the airline staff did arrange the box to be hand carried by their staff to the aircraft as the box might go into pieces while on the conveyor belt. I will definitely fly with Vietnam Airlines again.”
—Jacob J (Sepang, Malaysia)
“Good journey and would certainly fly with them again. Flew on a dreamliner and found the journey comfortable. The staff were friendly and attentive. The facilities were good although the inflight entertainment was a bit unreliable. I haven’t flown longhaul for a number of years as my experience had been very uncomfortable, this flight has made me reconsider and I will consider another long haul flight with this company. I am 5′ 8″ with long legs and there was adequate room without feeling squashed – if you have shorter legs I think you will have plenty of room for a comfortable flight. The inflight meals were also tasty and well presented. I can’t really comment accurately on value for money as I was part of a tour and all costs were amalgamated – however my instinct is that the flight was vfm.”

The cool interface of the website’s layout really is refreshing to the eyes, especially when the entire interface dimmed after clicking the booking options above. The website allows a user to find for available flights; round trip, one way, or multiple directions. Users are also allowed to do an online check-in, check their flight info’s and even managed their own booking. Scrolling down, several advertisements about the airline’s current promos can be seen, and different travel-related and airline-related articles can be clicked as well. A very informative website that provides the most detailed information about the airline’s rules and regulations. You can check Vietnam Airlines’ website by clicking this link.
